As some of you know, I spent some time in New York City this week. I took some example pictures with my digital camera which I will upload in the next few days. I also had the opportunity to see a really neat exhibition at the Jonathan Levine Gallery called The Streets of Europe. I will also upload examples of the art.

It all got me thinking more about graffiti and street art, which a few of us discussed at the last session. There's a very neat group in NYC called The Wooster Collective that documents global examples of street art on a fantastic blog.

Here's a great example of street art and community health and wellness intersecting in a generally delightful way.

What is Photovoice?

Photovoice
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Photovoice is a methodology mostly used in the field of education which combines photography with grassroots social action. Subjects are asked to represent their community or point of view by taking photographs. It is often used among marginalized people, and is intended to give insight into how they conceptualize their circumstances. As a form of community consultation, photovoice attempts to bring the perspectives of those "who lead lives that are different from those traditionally in control of the means for imaging the world" into the policy-making process. It is also a response to issues raised over the authorship of representation of communities.
